Undergraduate financial support

For most full-time and part-time undergraduate students, there are no upfront fees as you can access government tuition fees loans.

Full-time undergraduate students are eligible to apply for maintenance loans to help with living costs.

If you’re starting a part-time course on or after 1 August 2018, you can apply for a maintenance loan to help with your living costs.

The Birkbeck cash bursary scheme can help you with the costs of study, such as purchasing books, printing and travelling to lectures.

This funding is designed to help you prepare financially for your course, and to assist you with financial issues you may experience throughout the academic year.

The Birkbeck Hardship Fund can provide support towards unexpected costs that have been incurred as a result of an emergency or unforeseen change in your personal situation.

Three students with discretionary leave to remain, LLR or Asylum seeker status, and otherwise required to pay overseas fee rates, will be eligible to pay the ‘Home’ rate of tuition fees.

The Compass Project Fund will provide 20 asylum seekers, who are not eligible for student finance, with a scholarship to study a university-level programme at Birkbeck.

The Birkbeck Access to Digital Learning Fund helps Home and EU students with the cost of essential IT resources.

This bursary is intended to help students succeed during their first year of undergraduate study by helping to remove financial barriers.

If you need help with childcare costs, you may be eligible for support from the Government and/or from Birkbeck, depending on your mode of study and personal circumstances.

Our Lifelong Learning Guarantee scheme provides practical support to help reduce the costs of education for those who are continuing their learning journey with Birkbeck.

Ten scholarships of £5,000 per year are available for undergraduate students to increase diversity in finance.

We are pleased to offer five bursaries of £5,000 to students from diverse backgrounds wanting to study environment and sustainability.
