MRes Philosophy Bursary
The Department of Philosophy will award a limited number of bursaries to students embarking on the MRes in Philosophy for 2019-20. The Philosophy Master of Research Bursary is available for both full-time students (over one year) and part-time students (over two years).
The MRes in Philosophy is designed to provide students with research-based training in philosophy and also to serve as a foundation for starting an individual PhD project.
Number of bursaries
- Up to eight bursaries may be awarded this year on the basis of academic merit.
Eligibility criteria
- All applicants meeting the following criteria are eligible to be considered for the Master of Research bursary:
- Merit or Upper Second Class equivalent MA in Philosophy
- or, exceptionally, excellent First Class equivalent BA in Philosophy.
Value of funding
- As a partial tuition fee waiver, the value of each bursary is £4000 for full-time students or £2000 per annum over two years for part-time students.
How to apply
- Selection for these bursaries will be made by the Philosophy Department's Postgraduate Research Standing Committee, based on academic record, two academic references, a research proposal of up to 5000 words, and an interview.
- All eligible applicants will be entered for the bursary unless they request otherwise.
Closing date for funding application
- 31 July 2019.
Further information
- It is expected that the final selection of successful applicants will be made by 15 August 2019. In the case of a high number of highly qualified applicants, a waiting list may be used.
