Accommodation for full-time students

While Birkbeck does not own halls of residence, a number of rooms are reserved for Birkbeck students in partner halls of residence. In order to apply to stay in a nominated rooms for academic year 2017-18, you will need to apply via the Birkbeck accommodation application form. Stay in nominated rooms is normally limited to one year.
Eligibility criteria

You must have a conditional or unconditional offer to study at Birkbeck on a full-time course to apply.
Only students starting a course in 2017-18, for the full academic year, can apply for a nominated room.
Priority will be given to international students studying in the UK for the first time.
Application from students from outside of the M25 will also be considered.

Demand for nominated rooms usually exceeds the offer; therefore, we cannot guarantee that every applicant will be offered a room. We advise you to look into alternative accommodation options.

When to apply: Applications are now open. Rounds of nominations will take place in July and August. No application will be accepted after 24 August 2017.

A leading provider in student accommodation, Unite, has over 20 halls in London.
More information about the different halls is available on the organisation's website, but application for spaces reserved for Birkbeck students for academic year 2017-18 will have to be submitted via the online form that will become available in the spring term.
You can use our application form for rooms available for the remainder of 2016-17.
Application is open to all full-time students (new and current students). You can stay in Unite halls of residence as long as you are a full time student.

London has a variety of independent private halls of residence, offering a large range of accommodation from dorm to flats.
You must apply directly to the halls for a space. Applications are usually dealt with on a first-come first-served basis.

It is possible for full-time students to apply for rooms that are advertised for direct let to all University of London students in the University of London Student Homes.
You must have an unconditional offer or be a current student to be able to apply.
Through this scheme the University of London offer rooms in shared accommodation, in flats or houses managed by the University of London. You would become a tenant of the University of London. You will be required to have a guarantor. Birkbeck cannot act as a guarantor for this scheme.
New rooms will be added regularly during the year.

Second year and above students can apply to stay in the University of London-owned flats. Located in Finchley (Clandon House) and Bloomsbury (Gower Street flats), and with weekly rates starting at £82 per week (Clandon House) they offer a great alternative to halls of residence.
Please note that you must be able to visit the accommodation in person before you apply. Viewing for Clandon House starts at the beginning of June; August for Gower Street flats.

Birkbeck students have full access to the University of London’s Housing Services, which is based in Student Central, next door to our main building on Malet Street. The University of London has a dedicated Private Housing Service, which offers a range of services to assist and support students who are looking for and living in private accommodation. The service helps you to find accommodation from their database which includes properties from private landlords as well as letting agents and private halls of residence.

ULHS also provides advice and assistance with the process of finding somewhere to rent as well as during the time you are renting. The experienced Housing Advice Team offer a contract checking service before you sign up to anything and also legal advice for those who are experiencing problems with private accommodation such as deposit disputes.
