About us
Established in 2007, the Centre enables and promotes the best research in multilingualism and multiculturalism. We bring together researchers, working in a range of disciplines, from across Birkbeck, the University of London, and further afield, to enhance collaboration opportunities and to maximise real-world impact.
Aims and Objectives
- We contribute to debates about linguistic and cultural diversity, focusing on London in a global context.
- We provide a platform for research, create opportunities for new work, and establish national and international collaborations.
- We support research by postgraduates and practitioners in the relevant fields.
- Our principal objectives are to:
- promote research by drawing together, coordinating and enhancing existing and potential areas of national and international excellence
- support the development of researchers and research groups working across disciplinary and organisational boundaries
- provide resource management and infrastructure to members of the Centre
- distribute research results to the wider public to make an impact on the wellbeing of bilingual and multilingual communities and individuals, including influencing social and educational policies and practices concerning them.
