Open evenings
Our annual Open Evenings are held throughout the year. They are organised by the Birkbeck events team.
- Visitor registration: we ask all visitors to register online with us prior to the Open Evenings or we register them on arrival. We use this information to encourage prospective students to make an application and enrol.
- Reception/general information desks: for prospectuses, general information, plus a detailed guide/programme for the evening.
- Non-academic information stands: for prospective students to find out about student finance, making an application, disability advice, nursery facilities, the library, and the Students’ Union.
- Presentations: we run presentations at each Open Evening.
- Student support stands.
Information for subject section stands
All Schools need to ensure that their stands are staffed for the duration of the event. You are welcome to bring along promotional literature and leaflets for your courses to answer prospective students’ questions.
Please note the following in particular:
- Publicity materials: if you require up-to-date promotional literature for Open Evenings, please ensure that these are produced well before the Open Evening.
- Delivery of boxes to and from the event: please note all boxes need to be clearly labelled for return (name, department, room number). Please make sure that you take all valuable materials away with you from the stand at the end of the evening.
- Display material: External Relations provides corporate style displays, listing the broad subject areas represented at the stand, and tablecloths. We do not use Velcro panels, so there’s no need to bring any of your own posters or other displays.
- Staffing the stand: your stand can be set up from 3.00pm on the day and must be staffed between 4.00pm and 7.45pm.
- Network points: if you need a network point, you should contact the events team at least a month before the Open Evening, for us to plan the desks' layout.
- Refreshments: these will be available for all staff and visitors throughout the Open Evening.
